Using Substitutions New Orleans Style
Substitutions are a great way to soup up a simple progression and add harmonic movement and depth to your solos. Think of substitutions as overlaying a new progression over a simple one. It's a very easy thing to apply and but it adds a layer of sophistication to your playing that really sets you apart from other guitarists.
We'll be learning how to use substitutions over a funky New Orleans Style I-IV-V progression.
🎸 Here’s what we’ll cover:
✅ Adding Sub dominants
✅ Adding Secondary Dominants and Subdominants
✅ Using iv Chords
✅ Using Diminished Chords To Access Dominant b9 Chords
✅ Superimposing ii-V7 progressions
✅ Real-world application through a full solo study
You'll learn simple, practical exercises that give you real results—and we'll apply it all by learning a full solo that ties everything together.
