Travis picking has been a guitar technique forever tied to rockabilly music. Early rockabilly guitarists like Scotty Moore and Carl Perkins were emulating guitar giants and travis picking pioneers Merle Travis and Chet Atkins with their iconic rhythm and lead guitar playing. The role of travis picking in rockabilly music became even more prominent during the rockabilly revival of the late 70’s and early 80’s. This technique is a cornerstone of Brian Setzer’s guitar playing along with countless other modern rockabilly players.
